The countdown has begun! The Fourthies are embracing this holiday season in a BIG way. They have a holiday site just for them- packed with many learning activities. On Wednesday we enjoyed out 50th Compliment Celebration with a "Snuggle In." Fun!

History4fourthies has taken us into the turn of the 21st century. The girls will be completing the jobs about this decade during the next couple of weeks. After that we will move back in time to the turn of the 20th century.

The girls continue working with order of operations and open sentences in math. This week's fact contract featured a daily EDpuzzle with a single problem solving activity. Each EDpuzzle has a Christmas themed problem. Many of the video clips have a message. Check them out if you have a chance. The girls love to talk about the message and their problem solving strategies. Here's an example:

The girls got clever with their fact practice. They earned Christmas lights for house decorating (the better your fact recall the more lights you earned) and then wrote a persuasive letter to the mayor asking for their house to be included in the Tacky Light Tour. Look for these when papers come home next week. Ask your daughter to explain what a "mathament" is. The girls started earning them this week. The more mathaments earned the more festive our classroom will look. And as an added bonus their math skills will be strengthened.

Summarizing key events was the focus in this week's writing lab. The girls wrote from the perspective of a young girl and explained an encounter with "The Man on the Moon." We dabbled with Google Story Writer. Next week the girls will write a faux story and practice editing- especially THERE, THEIR, and THEY'RE.
