Yes, our classroom has an Elf! He's pretty historical, having spent time in the White House during the FDR administration. That's how he got his name,
FDR E (I'm assuming the E stands for elf). Just another way to add to the Christmas spirit in Room M02. This week was the calm before the storm. Next week will be packed with Gift Service rehearsals and plenty of Christmas fun! It will be a homework free week. The girls will have spelling, Wordly Wise, and math assessments sprinkled throughout the week. A few may need additional practice at home. Please take a minute to review the week's

The girls looked at more key events of the 2000's this week. We talked more about September 11, 2001. The girls were so thoughtful and reflective. This is a tough topic for fourth graders. We also looked at pop culture and discussed the explosion of technology. That part was fun:)
Joy, wonder, patience, peace, awe.....we are working with abstract nouns and the role they play at this time of year. The girls spent time reflecting on their holiday celebrations and are in the process of creating a multimedia abstract noun project. They are in the script writing phase now. Look for the final project on next week's post.
Fun with Wordly Wise words, Rudolph, and letter writing? Working with their weekly partners, the girls wrote collaborative Google Stories that included editing practice with a few very tricky homonyms. Take a look (sound works better in Chrome than Safari):
Has your daughter showed you her Storybird account? Some girls are are writing beautiful chapter and picture books. Others are creating poetry. Buncee Buddies will be published for all to see in early February. The girls are putting the finishing touches on these. Editing practice was curtesy of the

We will wrap up unit 3 in math next week. The girls will take the unit assessment on Thursday and as with all unit assessments there will be a detailed review in class. Christmas involves some pretty huge
numbers and some pretty tough problem solving as the girls discovered in math this week. They practiced rounding, reading large numbers, large digit addition and subtraction. Did you know that the most expensively decorated Christmas tree had a price tag over 11 million dollars! Our classroom wreaths are now beautifully decorated with "mathaments" which was the result of hours of stellar math work.
